RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Mia Calamari broke her own school record for season assists to lead the University of Chicago women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory at New York University on Friday afternoon.

The No. 1-ranked Maroons (16-0 overall) maintained their spot atop the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings at 5-0. The No. 25-ranked Violets dropped to 10-4-2 and 2-2-1 in the UAA.

Defensively, UChicago is riding a seven-game shutout streak – the unit hasn’t allowed a goal in the past 668 minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Donovan (13-0 record) started the game and made two saves in first half action. She was relieved after the break by first-year Miranda Malone, who grabbed one save in the closing 45 minutes.

An early UChicago tally was waved off by an offside call, followed by junior midfielder Jenna McKinney’s shot off the crossbar in the 12th minute. The offense eventually broke through in the 35th minute. Calamari launched an attempt on goal from 35 yards out that was punched up into the air by the goalie. First-year midfielder Maddie DeVoe then pounced on the rebound and tapped it into the open net.

The insurance goal came in the waning moments of the first half. The Maroons were awarded a corner kick with about 15 seconds left and the visitors hustled to set up a play. Calamari swiftly booted a kick into the box and found first-year midfielder Claudia Hodgetts for a header goal to the far post with only three seconds remaining.

Her two assists gave Calamari 16 for the season, which breaks her own school mark of 15 set in the 2015 season. The senior now has a school-record 56 assists in 80 career games played.

The Maroons cruised through the send half and preserved their two-goal advantage. Senior midfielder Kelsey Moore pinged the crossbar with a shot as well in the 87th minute.

All told, UChicago held a sizable edge in shots (22-7) and corner kicks (7-2).
