Messiah’s D.J. Cole; D3 Sports News WSOC Defensive Player of the Year

After anchoring the Messiah defense that ranked top in the nation in goals-against average (.151) and second in shutout percentage (.842), Falcon center-back DJ Cole’s was named the MAC-Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year for the 2017 season – her second award in as many seasons. Cole has proven to be one of the best two-way players in nation, with her speed and persistence limiting opponents on the ground, in the air, and everything in-between.

Messiah allowed just two goals in the regular-season and entering post-season play the team’s goals against average (0.110), save percentage (0.933), and shutout percentage (0.889) all led the nation. The Falcons’ defense also allowed just 4.2 shots to opponents in the regular-season, and Messiah opponents collected just 18 total corner attempts across 17 games prior to postseason play.
