(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women’s basketball team [overtook] visiting Franklin & Marshall in the fourth quarter to claim a key Centennial Conference match-up on Wednesday night, dealing the Diplomats a 64-60 loss at the Kline Center.
The teams went back-and-forth in the early going before the Diplomats pulled in front, 12-6, with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter. Four different players scored to pull the Red Devils even at the first break, 15-15.
The Red Devils used a balanced attack and played even in the second quarter, as the teams remained tied at halftime, 31-31. F&M scored three straight field goals to open a six-point lead, early in the third period, and held a 48-45 advantage as the game headed into the final quarter.
The Red Devils quickly pulled even and went in front on a jumper from Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) at the 7:07 mark.
Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./St. Gill Bernard’s) continued the Red Devil run with three straight field goals and classmate Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) gave Dickinson a seven-point lead with just over a minute remaining.
The Red Devils would hold on down the stretch, outscoring the Diplomats 12-4, in the paint to help secure the win.
Lesher recorded her fourth straight double-double, netting 15 points and controlling a game-high 17 rebounds, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line. McBride finished with a double-double night, scoring 20 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Padalino reached double-figures with 11 points while Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) tallied six points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.
Kristin Hamill led Franklin & Marshall with 33 points and 11 rebounds as the Diplomats fall to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The Red Devils improve to 5-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play. They are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College at 1:00 pm.
